Located in the bustling Abobo district, the MuCAT is a private museum that operates without funding from the Ivorian government. In its mission to make art and culture more accessible to this community, which is largely living in precarious circumstances, it needs the support of us all.
Let's visit, donate, share, and get involved to help culture flourish!
About us
Welcome to the world's first museum of modern art.
The Adama Toungara Museum of Contemporary Cultures is named after its founder, the former mayor of the commune of Abobo (2001 to 2018). MUCAT is a private museum, inaugurated in March 2020, and owned by the Adama Toungara Foundation. Its very contemporary architecture was designed by architect Issa Diabaté. It is the first museum in Côte d'Ivoire to be entirely dedicated to contemporary art.
MUCAT's mission is to develop awareness-raising initiatives about contemporary culture for individuals, families, and school groups, in order to help them better understand the role of the museum in its community. Its ambition is to move the arts beyond the realm of mere entertainment, inviting an ever-wider audience to open themselves to the world through the "lens" of MUCAT.
Covering an area of 3,500 m², it has a 400 m² exhibition hall and a second, L-shaped hall of 160 m². It also features a space dedicated to live performances, a recreational area, a gift shop, a library, a media library equipped with 14 computers, accessible with an annual subscription, as well as a 60-seat conference room, ideal for meetings, debates, and film screenings. It is open every day from 9:30 am to 6:00 pm, except on Mondays.

Through his project entitled "The Words of Pain (Act 2)," the artist has offered us much more than simply beautiful paintings. This collection of works is an invitation to delve into the depths of our emotions and to engage with the crucial subject of mental health.

This exhibition is neither an animal exhibition nor a football exhibition. It is first and foremost a historical exhibition! It traces the history of Ivory Coast around major themes such as literature, colonization, political issues, politico-military crises, and cultural diversity as a symbol of unity.

I was delighted to visit our museum with my children, who were thrilled and amazed by the artwork. Thank you to the guide.
I'm so glad I visited our museum, which is truly rich in culture with magnificent paintings and decor. Thank you, and may God bless Ivorian culture.
I was completely awestruck standing before these frescoes and paintings. The presentation on the diaspora and the paintings depicting national integration with the various neighboring communities are deeply inspiring. Thank you!
For an experience, it was really cool. The sets and the originality of the place are truly amazing. You can see several works of art, including those that tell the story of Ivory Coast, and other quite interesting ones. I'll be back very soon, but this time with friends. Thank you!
A true gem in the Abobo district, this museum immersed us in the history of Ivory Coast. It was a wonderful exhibition, and we were delighted to spend our time there.
Elephants!!! What word, what image, what symbol, what animal could resonate more deeply with Ivorians than this one? A magnificent idea to have used this symbol to tell the past, present, and future story of our country; everything is there: the birth of the nation, culture, football, music, languages, art... A cultural journey that invites us all to unity and peace.
A very nice exhibition, I enjoyed it.
